CAREER OPPORTUNITY | UTILITY OPERATIONAL TECHNOLOGY

Business Analyst

Create the requirements, process, and decision discipline that complex programs need.

About the Company

Grid Transformation is a specialist electric-utility operational technology advisory firm. We help utilities turn grid-modernization strategy into operational reality across Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS), Outage Management System (OMS), Distribution Management System (DMS), Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), Distributed Energy Resource Management System (DERMS), and related capabilities.

Our work spans strategy and roadmaps, vendor-neutral assessment, requirements and design, program delivery, testing, process engineering, change, deployment, and operational readiness. We bring a practical perspective grounded in how utilities plan, operate, restore, and modernize the distribution grid.

Job Description

We are seeking a Business Analyst who can bring structure to business needs, processes, requirements, decisions, and acceptance across complex utility transformation programs. You will work with utility representatives, operations and engineering, IT/OT, consultants, architects, testing, change and training, program teams, vendors, and systems integrators.

The role combines strong facilitation and analysis with disciplined documentation, traceability, change assessment, test support, and business readiness activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and facilitate discovery, requirements, process, design support, and decision workshops.

  • Elicit and document business needs, requirements, business rules, use cases, and acceptance criteria.

  • Define business objectives, scope, stakeholders, decision rights, assumptions, risks, and unresolved questions.

  • Develop current- and future-state process maps, operating narratives, roles, handoffs, pain points, controls, and gap analyses.

  • Maintain traceability across objectives, requirements, designs, interfaces, tests, defects, decisions, changes, and approvals.

  • Prepare workshop materials, pre-reads, agendas, decision questions, records, and clear follow-up actions.

  • Document decisions, actions, assumptions, risks, dependencies, and open questions so delivery teams remain aligned.

  • Assess requirement changes across scope, schedule, process, design, testing, training, operations, and business readiness.

  • Support test planning, user acceptance testing, defect clarification, change control, readiness, and acceptance documentation.

  • Produce stakeholder maps, problem statements, requirements catalogues, traceability matrices, decision logs, and leadership summaries.

Requirements and Qualifications

The successful candidate will bring a practical combination of business-analysis discipline, structured communication, and stakeholder facilitation:

  • Business-analysis experience on a complex technology, operations, infrastructure, or transformation program.

  • Strong skills in elicitation, workshop facilitation, process mapping, requirements writing, traceability, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Ability to distinguish business needs, requirements, design choices, assumptions, constraints, risks, and decisions.

  • Experience supporting testing, user acceptance, defect clarification, change control, business readiness, and formal acceptance.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, attention to detail, and the ability to document outcomes clearly.

  • Ability to synthesize conflicting information, surface unresolved questions, and maintain alignment as solutions evolve.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in utilities, operational technology, critical infrastructure, asset-intensive operations, or regulated environments.

  • Exposure to ADMS, OMS, DMS, SCADA, AMI, DERMS, GIS, work management, or related platforms.

  • Experience with BPMN and requirements management or application lifecycle management tools.

We welcome applicants with different backgrounds and career paths who can demonstrate the capabilities needed to succeed. If your experience does not match every listed asset, we still encourage you to apply and explain the perspective you would bring.
